About Doryman

Mostly everyone has been to bars and restaurants throughout their travels in different towns and cities. Once in a while, you stumble upon a place that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. This is what happens when you walk into the Doryman. Since 1966, we have strived to make our customers feel at home; whether they are locals from right here in Cape Breton or visiting the Cabot Trail from another part of the world.  Our story spans over five decades and shows no signs of slowing down. As we look to the future and continue supporting and celebrating our rich local music scene, it is also important to take a look back at the memories and stories which helped build The Doryman and its reputation.

Pretty darn hard to beat the old Doryman on a Saturday night for some authentic foot-stompin’ fiddle music. It's as Cape Breton as it gets. A must-go when in town! Get up and dance a jig, grab a girl for a reel!

This place is great. Not only do they have great food, they have great people working there. I had pan fried haddock and a side salad (which is hard to get while traveling) and it was all great. Not greasy at all. Fish was fresh and flaky. My husband had the chicken wings which were lightly hand breaded in house and were also great. Raven was our superb waitress and not only answered all our questions about the menu but explained Chase the Ace. She also gave me a great suggestion for coffee to buy in market as I was having trouble with Tim Hortons. We highly recommend this place.

Had a fabulous time! Meant to stop by for a few minutes and stayed the entire afternoon to listen to the live Celtic music. Great pub atmosphere. Lots of fun.

Welcomed with a smile We showed up ten minutes before the kitchen closed after a long day of hiking and were welcomed with a smile, and the kitchen was happy to stay open for us. Fresh food, good beer selection and live music all at a very reasonable price. The house salad was a highlight. The chowder was easily better than some of the local restaurants that were priced much higher. Service was really friendly and she let us know about some local swimming hole secrets. We were sad it was our last night in Cheticamp because we would have come back again. It was my first trip to Cape Breton and they made me feel like a local.

Food and service were excellent! We had the fish and chips; the fish was pan fried and perfectly cooked. We also tried the classic poutine and the seafood chowder! We will return to this little gem in Cheticamp!

The Doryman Pub is a great local pub. The staff is super nice, the food is very delicious, and it has a very local feel while eating. The restaurant overlooks the water so it provides a beautiful view while eating and enjoying live music. The food they provide is very good and provide larger portion sizes for the price. Very much recommend to stop in and eat here.

Came here for lunch The Doryman burger is the best burger I've ever had. The sweet potato fries were big, crunchy and perfect. The poutine was also amazing. Serving size is filling. Service was prompt and our server was great. Worth it!

Simply Excellent We arrived for late lunch and were thrilled to find the place alive with people, socializing and music. From the owner Marc, to our waitress Lola, to the chefs who prepared tasty meals, to the gentleman who greeted us, we felt welcomed. Music was lively, professional and fun. We highly recommend the Doryman Pub.
